Gerber will go on Friday, so assume Auld on Saturday.  Alfie may play on Friday.

Cherapanov:  For those of you who don’t know, the 19 year old Rangers prospect collapsed during a game in Russia and died of what is presumed to be heart failure or a heart attack or something along those lines.  If you ever needed an argument against playing in Russia, this is probably it.  Sure, tax free salaries paid from mob coffers is great and all.  In the U.S. or Canada, you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a defribrulator.  Joe Sixpack playing in the local park would have been revived by some hockey mom within 2 minutes.  In Russia, a professional athlete doesn’t get adequate treatment until he gets to a hospital some 20 minutes later; it was too late.

So, next time you hear a hockey player playing the “I’ll just go play in Russia” card, you might remind him that he’s taking his life and career in his hands; at least to some extent.  Just ask Patrik Elias how hepatitis treated him.
